After chatting with another apparent student who goes by the screen name of "Captain Howdy," Genevieve and Tiana decide to attend a party at Captain Howdy's house, which is a trap. The film has a strong emphasis on the Modern Primitive subculture and its ethos of spiritual transcendence through painful rites, showing several such different practices therein. The film centers around a police detective trying to save his city, as well as his daughter, from an online predator who enjoys bringing "enlightenment" through ritual pain. Friends Genevieve (Linda Cardellini) and Tiana (Amal Rhoe) getįriendly online with Hendricks - who, in homage to The Exorcist, goes by the snappy name "Captain Howdy" - and thinking he's a boy their own age, accept his invitation to go to a party at his place. Carleton Hendricks (Snider) is the guy you don't want to meet in an Internet chat room, especially if you're a gullible teenage girl. But movies -Įven horror movies with relatively modest ambitions - don't live by scary-looking super creeps alone. Former Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider looks pretty darned scary: teeth filed to points, torso and face covered with tribal tattoos, scalp crowned with industrial pink dreadlocks, piercings everywhere you can see and some places you can't. ![]()
